Son nom officiel est cathédrale de Sainte-Marie. Sa construction commence en 1221 à l’initiative de l’évêque Richard Poore. Les travaux sont terminés autour de 1280, ce qui représente un délai très court pour l’époque. De ce fait, son style est très cohérent.
